Top Makeup Trends of 2021

It’s hard to believe the year 2021 is nearly coming to an end. But hey! Now’s the time to reflect on all the things we have (or haven’t) done this year. Here at BuyMeBeauty, we love looking back at what transpired in the makeup world to see if we can identify trends that may or may not carry over to the following year.

Colorful Eye Lids

This year was filled with a variety of creative eye looks from disco to technicolor and monochromatic combinations to actual metallic foils and starry glitter on lids. However, our favorite eyeshadow look has to be the multicolor lids.

To achieve this look all you need is to choose your most vibrant shadows in various colors and blend them together to create a colorful splash of color that will surely make you stand out from the crowd!

Colored Mascara

Following up on the colorful eye look trend, let’s talk about colored mascara. This is a trend we’ve seen pick up pace more and more in recent years and it seems as though companies are picking up on it too.

Nowadays there are so many choices to choose from. Experiment with crazy colors and combine them with traditional smokey eyes for an incredible contrast!

Underliner

In terms of eyeliner trends, we know cat-eyes and dramatic thick lines are still in fashion, but we’ve also noticed a significant increase in dramatic under eye liner or underliner. Basically, lining your bottom lashline instead of your upper one.

Makeup artists claim this trend is the next big thing due to its versatility. You can go as bold as you want with crazy colors (more color LOL) or subtle and mild. It definitely creates an edgy effect.

High Falsies

But what if you don’t like this whole colorful trend going around? Well, you can never go wrong investing in a full lash-lift. 2021 was definitely the year for all things eyes and lashes and we’ve noticed a surge in falsies with high lashes and long fringes.

Many find false lashes to be a hassle but the trick is to find the brand that works for you and preferably a reusable product you can wear multiple times per month. There’s also the fact that you can cut and arrange false lashes at will depending on your specific needs.

Stained Lips

2021 may have been the year for eyes and lashes trends but in the lips department we’ve seen many popular favorites make a comeback such as burgundy, purple and orange lip colors as well as decades (60s, 2000s) inspired looks.

Perhaps our top favorite trend has to be lip tints. The most subtle and durable lip product of all! Forgo your Moon Drops this New Year’s, get a lip stain instead.

90's Lips

Many agree the 90s made a huge comeback in 2021, in both the fashion and beauty industry alike. In other words, lots of earthy tones and matte finishes with a bold lip liner. Or just the lip liner and no lip color?

This look is definitely stylish and suitable for so many different occasions that you might find yourself giving it a try soon.

The "No Makeup" Look

Last but not least is 2021’s fan favorite (allegedly), the “No-makeup-I-woke-up-like-this” look. This one may sound like an oxymoron because you WILL need makeup to achieve the look LOL.

In short, the look consists of priming your skin with your favorite primer and lightly coloring your cheeks and lips with neutral tones. And don’t forget to style your brows – which, by the way, 2021 totally popularized the brushed/fluffy brow look.
